Coach's Corner
03/06/10
We have now played 8 games and
have got to the 1st
of 2 scheduled byes with 6 wins and 2 losses and are sitting on top of
the ladder, which is very pleasing. Overall the boys have played very
good team orientated football and we have made it a focus to make
teamwork our 1st
priority. The break has come at a good time and we have taken the
opportunity to have a light week leading up to the bye before getting
back into a normal week of training leading up to our game against
Yanchep.
We have learnt something from each
of our games and continue to strive to improve our strengths and improve
our weaknesses. We have taken particular lessons from our two losses,
one to Cockburn and one to Jandakot, both of whom were committed
opponents who thoroughly deserved their victories in those games. We
have also played Kwinana twice and although we have beaten them twice
the combined winning margin of those two games was 12 points, so we have
to keep focussed on improving as we have to confront some very strong
opponents.
We are still establishing the best
positions for a few of the players and we have some players who offer us
the luxury of performing very well in a number of positions, which gives
the coaching staff a bit of headache at match selection. We have had on
average 2 changes to the team each week and I’m sure as the season
progresses selection is going to get much more difficult as everyone is
available and over injuries. We believe we have significant improvement
in us as a team and as players. My match committee and I have noticed
that most of our players are improving each week and some at a rapid
rate over the last month or so.
We now have a block of 4 games and
then we have another bye. We are going to focus all our attention on our
next game do our best to maintain the team’s improvement and continue to
put in place the things we have been working on at training.
There is a good feeling around the
club at the moment. It’s great to see the boys stay back after training
on a Thursday night and have dinner together while the team for that
weekend is being selected. Similarly most of the boys stay after a game
and listen to the presentations and more importantly to find out if they
have been fined or not.
Looking forward to seeing you at
the club at our next game

I am very excited to
be the new Senior Coach of the Noranda-ECU Football Club. I would like
to thank the committee of the club for giving me the opportunity. I
believe this is an exciting time to join this club as in the last 2
years the club had finished 2nd and 3rd. We have a young playing group
and do not expect to lose any players, whilst recruiting has already
begun to add to our list. We are already working behind the scenes to
ensure our preseason program is planned out and challenging for the
players. I saw the last 7 games of last season and believe I have
identified some areas that we need to work on as well as further
developing our strengths. Whilst we will be working hard on the training
track to develop our team and a team 1st ethos we will also enjoy each
others company off the field as well as we embark on what are planning
to be a very fruitful season.
My background in
football goes back to 1977 when as a 7 year old I was an inaugural
member of the Noranda Junior Football Club where I played 101 games
(which is another reason why I am so pleased to be coming back to where
I started my footy). I then played in the amateurs for Mt Lawley for 10
years (141 games) before retiring from playing due to knee injuries. I
then became runner for the East Perth Colts where I started to develop a
passion for coaching as I was learning some tactics and strategies from
some very astute football people including Glen Bewick, Larry Kickett
and my brother Michael. I held this role for 4 years before coaching a
colts team at the Mt Lawley Amateur Football Club, I then returned to
East Perth where I was a development coach with their 16's development
squads for 2 years. During this time I have completed both my level 1 &
2 coaching accreditations as well as attended coaching development
sessions run by the East Perth Football Club.
I am committed to
assisting the players at the Noranda / ECU Football Club be the best
players they can be and providing an environment that players want to be
in. I look forward to meeting you all in due course and to the
commencement of training and games.
